Commercy LEAP Plant Construction Well Underway
Albany Engineered Composites (AEC, a subsidiary of Albany International) and Safran’s joint efforts to produce composites components for the LEAP aircraft engine continue with the construction of a second composites production plant in Commercy, France. The French plant, a 250,000 square foot (~23,000 square meter) facility, is the second dedicated to the production of composite LEAP components. The other is a 350,000 square foot (~33,000 square meter) plant in Rochester, New Hampshire (USA). Both facilities will collocate both AEC and Safran personnel and functions. The two plants are in the midst of what has been called the largest aeroengine production ramp up in aerospace history, targeting production numbers of approximately 96,000 parts per year beginning in 2021.
Hiring at the Commercy plant has begun, and AEC anticipates an increase in the hiring rate beginning in early 2014.
